About me and how it all started...

Hello! I'm Andrea and welcome to my world of Woven Designs! I'm the artist and creator behind this website to showcase my love for making woven fabrics and surface decorations. I'm a third year undergraduate studying a Textiles Design in Birmingham City University, based in West Midlands, UK.

I started my creative journey by taking a Textiles Design course in College to specialise in Fashion Design. I originally thought I would work in a Fashion Illustration company, which later developed into Textiles for Fashion as I realised I wasn't fond of drawing silhouettes... When I began discovering the world of weaving, during my course in College, I was exposed to other woven designers that showed me that a career in weaving is possible!

A few months later, my family and I visited my home country, the Philippines. We went to different provinces to experience the culture, the local life, taste the food that was so familiar and to understand why weaving is so important to my culture.

​

From fibres and threads, to colours and prints; weaving speaks so much about the Philippines cultural narratives. Besides preserving history, the country's woven products also brings attention to the indigenous communities and lifestyle.

Inspired by my heritage and culture, learning raw techniques and the authenticity of craftsmanship gave me the light bulb of becoming a woven designer. My love for my culture and creating fabrics gave me the confidence to study in University to specialise in Weave!
